Sandoll (CEO Youngho Yun), a content creator platform company, announced on the 16th that its font platform, SandollCloud, has seen a sharp rise in font sales driven by the booming demand for short-form videos and fan merchandise production.

This trend is closely tied to the global success of the Netflix animated feature K-Pop Demon Hunters. According to Netflix’s official website, the film ranked first among all Netflix content earlier this month, with 266 million views.

With such explosive popularity, fans have continued the excitement by creating short-form videos, parody goods, and fan art using scenes and characters from the film.

In particular, subtitles have become an essential element in short-form content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. A recent study targeting U.S. consumers found that 80% of viewers were more likely to watch a video until the end if subtitles were provided. Since many people watch videos with the sound off in both public and private settings, subtitles have emerged as a key tool to boost viewer retention.

As a result, demand for distinctive fonts that enhance immersion and accelerate meme culture has rapidly increased. Title fonts are also being actively used in fan art and parody images, breathing new life into the font market.

According to data from SandollCloud, sales of popular fonts used in short-form subtitles, title design, and fan merchandise production soared year-on-year in the month following the release of K-Pop Demon Hunters.

  • HG Kikun Gothic C saw the highest growth with a 36% increase, favored for its tall letter ratio that perfectly fits impactful subtitles and bold titles.
  • Sandoll Cinema Theater rose by 29%, gaining traction for its retro aesthetic reminiscent of vintage movie marquees, widely used in parody videos.
  • Sandoll Action Stencil grew by 25%, with its fragmented letter shapes conveying a dynamic feel, making it popular for fan art and poster design.
  • Sandoll Nemoni increased by 12%, its bold, square structure being used in titles and banners.
  • Sandoll Hoyoyo grew by 7%, appreciated for its playful tone and popularity in merchandise production.

Sandoll conducts annual user trend research to reflect emerging needs in font development. With the surge in short-form creative demand, the company has been releasing new fonts tailored for this trend. For instance, SD Walkie-Talkie, launched in July, was designed with short-form aesthetics in mind. It quickly gained traction, with active users increasing nearly fivefold by the end of August.

A Sandoll spokesperson commented:
“The success of K-Pop Demon Hunters is a prime example of how global content in the OTT era can expand into fandom creativity and merchandise, directly driving increased font usage. If this trend continues, font demand is likely to expand globally, and Sandoll will respond by offering multilingual and stylistically diverse fonts to support creative environments worldwide.”
