Sandoll Inc. (CEO Youngho Yun), a content creator platform company, announced on the 24th that it hosted an “Inspire Talk” featuring world-renowned type designer Tobias Frere-Jones for Korean font designers.
The Inspire Talk was held on November 21 (Fri.) at Sandoll’s headquarters in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, for designers and studios participating in SandollCloud. The program was designed to create a meaningful venue that connects the Korean type industry directly to the global creative ecosystem.
For more than 25 years, Tobias has developed numerous influential typefaces widely used across modern design environments, including Gotham, Whitney, and Poynter Oldstyle. Gotham, in particular, gained international recognition after being used in former U.S. President Barack Obama’s campaign, while Whitney—originally developed for the Whitney Museum of American Art—has expanded its impact across diverse brand environments, including Delta Air Lines.

During the Inspire Talk, an in-depth discussion unfolded around Tobias’s design philosophy and practical methodologies, illustrated through cases of his representative typefaces used in international brands and campaigns. A focused Q&A session with Korean designers further enabled substantial knowledge exchange.
Beyond this program, Sandoll continues to strengthen global competitiveness and expand the creative ecosystem of Korea’s type design industry through initiatives such as its annual font conference Saisiot. These ongoing efforts were also evident during the Inspire Talk, where participating designers noted the value of experiencing global creative trends firsthand.
A Korean designer who attended the session commented, “It was inspiring to hear directly about Tobias’s long-standing research, design process, and sources of inspiration. The session deepened my understanding of the fundamentals of type design and global trends, and it was a truly insightful and meaningful experience.”
A Sandoll representative added, “Sandoll is committed to expanding international networks for the Korean type industry. This exchange has provided Korean creators with an important opportunity to align with global standards and explore new creative directions. We will continue to drive various initiatives to strengthen the global competitiveness of Korea’s type industry.”
