Sandoll Inc., a creator content platform company (CEO Yun Young-ho), has developed its own web font technology that allows users to freely express fonts in web and mobile environments, and has filed for an overseas patent to lead the market.

Sandoll announced on the 22nd that it had filed for a patent cooperation treaty (PCT) international patent for its service, ‘Sandoll Cloud Web Font’ service, this month. The domestic patent was registered March of last year.

Web font is a technology that allows users to use the desired font in web browsers and mobile environments regardless of the user’s font installation situation. However, until now, web fonts have not been actively used in the Korean website environment due to problems such as capacity, speed, etc.

Sandoll solved this problem by creating and delivering an optimized font file with only the glyphs needed for the page, and implemented it in the user’s web browser with the desired font.

Sandoll Cloud Web Font is a cloud-based service that inserts a simple HTML script and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) code into the web page and applies the font by streaming it, so it does not take up a fixed space in the system, improving speed, capacity and usability.

This technology can deliver fonts even if the font file is not installed. Therefore, it can be applied in various environments such as web browsers, games, web novels, etc., as well as mobile, tablet PC, etc., and users can experience various services with the font they want.

Especially, if it is applied to messenger-related services such as KakaoTalk, Line, Telegram, etc., users can use fonts that can better express their status, mood, and emotions to the other party, not the fixed fonts. For example, users can use a neat font for messages with company bosses or colleagues, and a cute font with a round feel for conversations with friends or family, making the messenger more interesting.

Moreover, with the emergence of ChatGPT recently, the competition for embedding search engine artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots has moved to the browser market, and the popularity of web fonts that deliver information more easily to users and increase readability is expected to increase.

A Sandoll official said, “Sandoll Cloud Web Font service is currently operating an open beta service, and anyone can experience it for free during this open beta period.” He added, “We plan to launch the official service within the first half of this year through continuous service improvement based on our own technology, and expand to global service later.”
