Sandoll Co., Ltd. (CEO Young-ho Yun) unveiled the "2023 Records of SandollCloud," analyzing a year's worth of usage data for its font platform, SandollCloud, on the 10th.
The analysis determined the top 10 font activation rates on SandollCloud based on the most actively used font data by SandollCloud customers during the past year.
The results revealed SandollCloud's presence as a global font platform in the domestic market. The increasing demand for multilingual fonts led to the prominence of Japanese and Latin fonts in SandollCloud's top font activation rates for 2023.
The most activated font on SandollCloud was the Korean font "Dragon" by designer Min-joo Ham. With a design resembling the form of a dragon, the "Dragon" font attracted popularity among designers with its dynamic design. The font's powerful design is expected to maintain steady popularity even in the auspicious year of the Blue Dragon in 2024.
Following closely behind were Japanese and Latin fonts, respectively, with ▲2nd place occupied by the Japanese font "Iwata Mincho" by Iwata, ▲3rd place by the Japanese font "BabyPop" by Fontsworks, and ▲4th place by the Latin font "8" by Cast.
The presence of multiple multilingual fonts in the top ranks indicates an increase in creators aiming to produce global content through multilingual fonts available on SandollCloud due to the popularity of K-content.
Furthermore, the usage of special language fonts within multilingual fonts garnered attention. The inclusion of Typotheque's Hebrew font "Noam Text Hebrew" in the 10th place is notable.
This indicates a growing demand for creating content in languages such as Arabic and Vietnamese, which have relatively scarce fonts compared to more commonly used fonts like Latin and Japanese, leading to their inclusion on SandollCloud.
In reality, SandollCloud offers fonts in various language groups, including Arabic, Vietnamese, Devanagari, Bengali, and Hebrew, without restrictions on usage, enabling diverse creations regardless of purpose.
Additionally, SandollCloud disclosed its award history through "The Records of SandollCloud 2023." The collaborative global font project "November" by Sandoll and the Netherlands-based type foundry Typotheque was selected as the Best of Best in the Brands & Communication Design category at the 2023 Red Dot Design Awards. The Best of the Best award from Red Dot is presented to the most outstanding and excellent works in design concepts.
The "November" project is the world's first multilingual font supporting hundreds of languages used by over 90% of the world's population, collaborating with 60 designers worldwide. "November" is provided by Sandoll as "SD November," supporting various languages such as Korean, Devanagari, Latin, Latin Extended, Greek, Greek Extended, Cyrillic, and Cyrillic Extended.
A SandollCloud representative stated, "SandollCloud provides multilingual fonts to meet the demand for foreign languages in domestic creations, bringing satisfaction to customers," adding, "We will continue to release fonts that suit user preferences and content purposes, strengthen language support and platform functionality to enable users to experience a wider range of experiences, aiming to establish ourselves as a global creator content platform."
Recently, SandollCloud has been continuously enhancing its service capabilities, unveiling the first web-based font platform service in Korea and showcasing services for global user convenience beyond Korea, continuing its leap towards becoming a global font platform.
