As K-contents such as webtoons and dramas continue to gain traction in the global market, Sandoll's provision of multilingual fonts for K-contents is attracting attention as a means of qualitative and quantitative growth.
Sandoll, a creator content platform co-headed by CEOs Seok Geum-ho and Young-ho Yun, announced on the 1st that sales of overseas fonts on their font platform, "SandollCloud," have increased.
Last year, purchases of overseas fonts on SandollCloud increased by 43% compared to the previous year. This increase in overseas font purchases is attributed to the global export-related effect of K-contents. Global fonts have become essential elements for overseas expansion of K-contents such as dramas, movies, and webtoons.
Analysis of the top 50 fonts with high selection rates within SandollCloud in May revealed that fonts from overseas brands accounted for 88%. Among them, the most selected font provider was "Gea Fonts," supporting Latin, Armenian, Cyrillic, and Greek, followed by "TypeTogether," supporting Latin, and "Typeotech Arabic," supporting Arabic fonts.
The high preference for overseas fonts is attributed to the fact that all fonts on SandollCloud are unrestricted in usage, allowing them to be used for video and webtoon productions, and the platform offers a library of over 12,000 foreign fonts, including Latin, Arabic, Devanagari, Cyrillic, and Greek.
Comparing the sales of overseas fonts within SandollCloud, the top three font providers showing the largest increase in sales from 2021 to 2022 were ▲ Kasandi Mark (448.7% increase, supporting Thai, Latin, and Vietnamese fonts) ▲ Typeotech (165.1% increase, supporting Latin and Greek fonts) ▲ Gea Fonts (64.6% increase, supporting Latin, Armenian, Cyrillic, and Greek fonts), indicating a high usage of fonts from countries where K-contents are popular, such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Europe.
As overseas font purchases continue to rise, Sandoll plans to expand its offerings to include individual fonts, allowing users to select and use their desired fonts at reasonable prices, and gradually expand the variety and languages of fonts available for sale.
In addition, Sandoll collaborates with global webtoon platform Kakao Webtoon to provide fonts to webtoon creators, playing a significant role in the growth of the Korean webtoon industry in the global market.
A Sandoll spokesperson stated, "The font ecosystem is expanding globally, and user base is expanding as well." They added, "Sandoll is committed to laying the groundwork for global market entry and will continue to develop and improve services to leap forward as a global content platform."
