Sandoll Inc. a creator content platform company(CEO Yun Young-ho), announced on the 12th that it unveiled a new font <SD Minburi> at the ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale) conference ‘ATypI 2023’ held in Paris, France.
The ATypI conference is a prestigious global typography event that started in Switzerland in 1957. It is held alternately in cities around the world every year, and renowned font companies from all over the world gather to hold related exhibitions, workshops, forums, and presentations. Sandoll, as a representative font company in Korea, has participated in ATypI since 2017, and has received praise for sharing the latest trends and major issues in the industry and showing the competitiveness of the Korean font industry every time.
The ATypI 2023, which is held this time, is held from the 9th to the 14th (local time) of this month at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Sandoll received the attention of the world by unveiling the know-how of producing multilingual fonts for UIUX on the morning of the 11th (local time).
The presentation was led by Kim Jin-hee, a designer at Sandoll who was in charge of CJ (Chinese, Japanese) custom font projects such as Nunsol, CheongRyu, and IBM Plex Sans JP, and Lee Soo-hyun, a designer who conducted custom font production projects such as Riot Games LCK and Toss Product Sans.
In this session, they explained the purpose and process of producing <SD Minburi>, which Sandoll is preparing to release next year. <SD Minburi> is a font for UIUX design environment, and it was designed in multiple languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Latin). It will be released first in Korean font next year, and then sequentially in Chinese and other languages.
The presentation was divided into two sections. First, they explained the process of reflecting the opinions of UIUX designers on the inconveniences and improvements they felt while using fonts in the UIUX environment. The second section was conducted on the topic of inconveniences and improvements when using fonts in the UIUX design environment. They shared their experiences on what points they had to consider and what trials and errors they had when controlling multiple multilingual fonts in one family, and received high responses from the audience.
Kim Jin-hee, the designer who gave the presentation, said, “It was meaningful to be able to present a font optimized for the UIUX design environment, which is a recent hot topic in the design field, at the ATypI conference, and it was also meaningful to share Sandoll’s multilingual production capabilities with type designers around the world and discuss a better multilingual production environment.” He added, “Sandoll will continue to identify the needs in the UIUX design environment and present improved font designs.”
Meanwhile, Sandoll will hold a presentation on the topic of <Not visual synchronization but contextual reinterpretation> to share the experience of multilingual collaboration projects on the 15th (local time). The presentation will be led by Sandoll’s designers Kim Cho-rong and Kim Seul-ki.
