Sandoll, a content creator platform company(CEO Yun Young-ho) announced on the 26th that it had changed the title of the October issue of ‘FORTUNE KOREA’, the Korean version of the global economic magazine ‘FORTUNE’ of the United States, to Korean in celebration of Hangul Day.

It was the first time that the Fortune Korea cover, which was written in English, featured a Korean title since its launch in 2009.

Sandoll said that the Korean lettering work of the Fortune Korea title was not a simple task of changing English to Korean. It was a typographic branding activity that understood and interpreted the context of the American Fortune’s English title, from its characteristics, background, values, and future direction.

The title that decorated the October issue of Fortune Korea emphasized the characteristics of Korean, which is composed of syllables, by applying ‘spelling out’. In addition, it added the formal features of the English title and sharpened the ends of the strokes of ‘ㅍ’ and ‘ㅊ’ to express the identity of Fortune Korea, which aims to make new attempts beyond the dignity of an economic magazine.

The October issue of Fortune Korea, which was produced in commemoration of the meaning of Hangul Day, not only applied the Korean title, but also used Sandoll’s <Sandoll Jebi><Sandoll Gothic Neo1> fonts, which have excellent readability.

Sandoll carried out typographic branding that contained the identity of the company, such as the Korean lettering work of the Fortune Korea title. It produced the English font for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018 and used it in the logo, and developed brand fonts for many companies such as Hyundai Card (U&I), Baedal Minjok (Dohyeon, Hanna, Euljiro series), Yeogi Eottae (Jalnan), and SKT (T Universe Sans).

In addition, it has established itself as a company with the best expertise in the country, leading the popularization of typographic branding by producing exclusive fonts for public institutions such as Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (Jeju Gothic, Jeju Myeongjo, Jeju Hallasan), and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (Hanulim, Handotum).

A Sandoll official said, “As the competitiveness of companies extends from products and services to branding, the role of fonts is also becoming more important.” He added, “From this perspective, the collaboration with Fortune Korea to change the title to Korean is a work that conveys the value of Korean, as well as expanding the typographic field and activating the font industry. Sandoll will continue to make efforts to revitalize the typographic ecosystem.”

Meanwhile, the October issue of Fortune Korea, which features the Korean title produced by Sandoll, will be available at online and offline bookstores and Starbucks stores nationwide from the 26th. The articles of the October issue of Fortune Korea include an interview with Jung Tae-young, vice chairman of Hyundai Card, who is the cover model, an interview with Seok Geum-ho, the founder of Sandoll, and stories of six Sandoll font designers who participated in the Fortune Korea Korean title work.
