Content Creator Platform Company Sandoll (CEO Young-ho Yun) announced on Tuesday that Motoya, a Japanese font brand with a 100-year tradition, has joined their font platform, SandollCloud.
Through Motoya's inclusion, domestic users in need of Japanese fonts can now conveniently access and utilize them through SandollCloud, eliminating the cumbersome process of purchasing fonts directly from Japanese websites.
The brand's offering includes a curated selection of 100 Japanese fonts, including well-known ones such as Motoya News Mincho, Motoya Cedar, Motoya Maru, and Motoya Aporo, which have been widely used in prominent Japanese newspapers like Nikkei and Sankei, as well as in the Japanese version of Nexon's game "Domination."
These fonts can be safely accessed and used through SandollCloud's cloud-based font streaming service without the need for font file installations, allowing for versatile utilization in various Japanese content creation endeavors without usage restrictions.
Sandoll has been expanding its Japanese font offerings in response to the increasing demand for Japanese font usage, driven by collaborations between creators from Korea and Japan in various fields such as dramas and films.
In the previous year, Sandoll introduced Morisawa, a global Japanese font brand, and launched a subscription service for individual fonts from Fontworks, a leading font company in Japan, to diversify user choices. Additionally, preparations are underway to expand multilingual font services, including Japanese fonts, to further broaden the range of font offerings.
A Sandoll representative stated, "The Hallyu wave, which began with K-pop and dramas, is gaining even more momentum in Japan, with its influence expanding into various fields. Recently, popular webtoons and K-learning comics have emerged, highlighting the need for font diversification." They added, "Through our font platform, Sandoll will continue to add various products for different language markets, including Japanese, to support global content creation."
Meanwhile, Motoya is a traditional Japanese font company founded in 1922, initially specializing in typeface manufacturing and sales. They have since developed modern fonts that prioritize both readability and artistic quality, catering to various digital environments such as internet mapping sites, automotive devices, medical, and precision equipment, based on renowned Japanese calligraphers' works.
