Content creator platform company Sandoll Inc. (CEO Young-ho Yun) announced on the 10th the release of its new body text font, SD Minburi, optimized for diverse media environments in the digital era.
SD Minburi was developed with the rapid spread of digital media and the diversity of screen environments in mind. Stemming from the understanding that fonts must evolve to reflect new aesthetic sensibilities and functional demands in line with the times, this font is designed to accommodate various user environments and multiple languages.
Notably, SD Minburi supports not only Korean but also Latin, Latin Extended, with Japanese and Chinese support coming soon. It is the only font in Korea that adjusts the inter-character space for each language, offering a consistent reading experience. This allows users to fine-tune the font’s weight and spacing to match their needs, enabling optimized text presentation across various media.
Currently, SD Minburi is a variable font with three adjustable axes: Weight, Korean spacing (KR Space), and Latin spacing (LT Space). As more languages are added, new axes will be introduced to enhance flexibility.
The font features a straightforward and geometric design. Its linear strokes with diagonal elements and closed curves, combined with slight linear accents, give it a clean and minimalist look that fits well within web and app frames. Thanks to this design, it offers excellent readability across various media environments.
SD Minburi underwent beta testing earlier this year and will also be available as a web font. Starting this month, it will be applied for the first time to Monthly Design and Design Plus, a website operated by Design Press.
Additionally, the development process of SD Minburi will be thoroughly discussed at Sandoll's font conference Saisiot, which will be held on Saturday, the 12th. The conference will feature industry experts presenting on the impact of fonts on society.
A Sandoll spokesperson stated, "SD Minburi is a body text font optimized for screens and supports variable font features, making it convenient for designers when working with multilingual combinations. We hope this font will be widely used in various environments moving forward."
